  JDate Times Square Billboard
Client: Spark Networks, plc
JDate Animator/Designer

This billboard was up in Times Square, New York in Spring of 2005. It's simplicity was neccessary in order to be in step with the running JDate ad campaign at the time, otherwise I would have gone totally nuts making it "ultra" fresh. This is my second Times Square billboard.

  JDate Urban Panel
Client: Spark Networks, plc
JDate Animator/Designer

This urban panel was on display in multiple places throughout Manhattan, including subway stations and street corners. This was quite a feat in that the original shot had the models wearing different t-shirts and it involved extensive retouching.

"Beige Globe 2005 " 3D Lenticular Calendar Book Cover
Client: Myron Manufacturing, Corp.
Agency: Dive Urgency Multimedia, LLC

Asked to re-design, re-interpret, and customize a pre-existing image for use with "lenticular" printing.

The goal was to a create an entirely new piece of artwork based on a royalty free stock image. The nature of the original piece was so composited that I actually needed to recreate all of the elements from scratch. This meant creating various objects in 3D programs and taking photos of others, then somewhat matching color, size, lighting, fonts, textures, etc. I managed to retain all of the succesful qualities inherent in the original work, yet I was still able to "tweak" it enough with subtleties and include all of the clients changes, as well as alter the design from the original. Ultimately, I needed to do this in order to be able to separate the many different, often times transparent elements in the proposed image. The result was a completely customized 8 layer caledar booklet cover that was to be printed in the 3D "lenticular" process.

In this particular case the theme is one that tells the story of how different elements in the "Global Economy" come together in their various layers and shades. The globe is the international focal point, with elements representing time and money arranged in different layers on different 3 dimensional planes. The application of this lenticular print is designed to be used as the cover image of a pocket or desk diary, distributed worldwide by Myron Corporation and The Adler Group. The 3D effect is accomplished using carefully structured layering.

The 3D effect occurs when the artwork is tilted and will not be shown in this example, but the 8 layers were set up with more than one element per layer and so the 3D effect occurs with all the objects in the image while minimizing the number of layers in total. This was extremely challenging and the end result was a complete success. I have included the original stock image (provided by the client) for comparisson purposes to the final book cover. If you look close enough you will see all of the differences in fonts, textures, reflections, postions, and lighting.

Here he is surrounded by firey skeletons riding out of Hell through the desert on motorcycles.     WWF XFL Trailer Cab
Client: World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc.
Agency: CGR/Seven

Asked to create original graphics for the sides and back to the trailer cab of a WWF XFL football truck. This was the largest file I have ever worked on in terms of actual size. The final artwork was shrink wrapped onto the trailer itself. Various techinques and filters were used in Photoshop in order to achieve the final look needed to bring this 2 color giant to life.

    WWF Smackdown Poster, Dec. 2000
Client: World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc.
Agency: CGR/Seven

Asked to design a poster for Dec. 5th Smackdown. My intent was to update the already dated look of simple outlined boxes and incorporate a faded grid structure as a first step towards a more modern look to the backgrounds associated with Smackdown art. More talent was added to the cover at a later date forcing a drastic change to the design. The final poster for Dec. Smackdown 2000 looked nothing like this, but the grid remained.

WWF Collectible Tables and Chairs
Brochure and poster for "Fan Fest" at WrestleMania 2000
Client: World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc.
Agency: CGR/Seven

After extensive searches through archived discs, I was asked to take mechanicals used to create the actual VIP arena chairs that were specific to WWF events over the years and fake a brochure and poster for collectible folding chairs and card tables.

We only had 1 shot of a black folding chair, and 1 shot of a black card table. There were 12 chairs and 2 card tables that needed to appear in the brochure and poster. One chair in particular for "Survivor Series" was actually a white chair and needed its detail to practically be drawn in since a photo of an all black chair holds no information other than a basic silohuette that can cross over into its inversed negative. The same was true for the white card table, its detail needed to be drawn in as well.

I created universal layers in Photoshop of the black folding chair and duplicated the shine that appears on the back and seat padding, placing its layers on top of the stack. Once each individual chairs artwork for the seat and back for all 12 chairs was streched into place, I played with its perspective and used "distort" to fake the original chair. The same tecnique was used on the tables. Once all the chairs were completed I was able to create the background for the poster and brochure as well as the faint backgrounds of the pages displaying the chairs.

I was not allowed to use any talent on this piece which is why there is only a hand holding the arena chair as opposed to say a cool photo of a guy getting smashed in the back by a chair...well, as designers we must work within parameters all the time, and this was no exception, but I still think it would have been cooler to show a guy getting smashed in the back by a chair.

"Teamwork" Animated Lenticular Calendar Book Cover
Client: Myron Manufacturing, Corp.
Agency: Dive Urgency Multimedia, LLC

Asked to design, illustrate, and animate an 8 frame animation for caledar booklets to be printed using a "lenticular" process.

In this case the theme is "Teamwork", and the animation involves a mountain climber helping another climber make his way over a cliffs edge. This piece is meant to inspire employees to work together in achieving their goals. All the elements in the original photo were separated into layers and given a panaramic feel by offsetting over time, the climbers were traditionally animated frame by frame for a realistic effect. The application of this lenticular print is designed to be used as the cover image of a pocket or desk diary, distributed worldwide by Myron Corporation and The Adler Group.

    Thalia Mood Board
Client: Mechtronics
Agency: CGR/Seven

Asked to create a mood board that depicted various products and shapes at that time that echoed the look and feel of the client's products. Thalia's product line was a varying assortment of electronically linked devices with a high tech look and feel. In one example, a Thalia alarm clock would go off in the morning which would start a Thalia coffee maker as well. The idea behind this mood board was to ease the client into a string of ad campaigns that revolved around a society already engulfed in familiarity with the look and feel of the Thalia appliances. I had fun with this layout and feel it has a strong sense of flow and tasteful repetition of shape and color.

This hacked up prototype was a stab at a cylindrical pack to add uniqueness on the store shelf. The idea here was to get a more handsome model to play the role and create visual flow using head and eye positioning in addition to the gradual loss of gray.

Grecian 1 2 3 Prototype
Company: Combe, Inc.
Employee: Mac Desktop Specialist

This prototype was considered one of the most important projects at Combe while I was working there and fell under heavy scrutiny from the President of the comany himself on down the ladder. It was given to me to design, with a million parameters of course, and I came up with about 2 dozen different versions. This version was accepted in 1999, but since the pack has yet to hit the marketplace I am certain that it will look different when it finally does hit the shelves.
My aim here was to get the pack to fit in the marketplace with a feel a little bit like Gillette's Mach 3 with the use of the gradient lines, but with all the constraints placed on the pack from various departments it never truely achieved the look I was hoping for. I still consider it to be an important piece of my portfolio nonetheless as it represents a large chunk of my time spent at Combe.

There were 3 in the set and it has redistribution packages that included versions for Kmart, and Walmart.

    Sylvania Packaging Redesign
Company: Minami International Corp.
Agency: Vanguard Staffing

This is one packaging example of literally hundreds of products that went through a redesign. The work involved in this massive venture was a grueling amount of photo retouching, mechanical reinterpretation, and package design for all of Sylvania's products in this line and were redesigned for Designer's Choice as well.

    Sylvania Packaging Redesign, retouch example
Company: Minami International Corp.
Agency: Vanguard Staffing

This is one image of literally hundreds of photos that I was asked to retouch. Although this example is 1 duotone in a set of 4 for this particular line of products, in most cases the work involved full color. There was such a heavy amount of retouching due to nature of the product (Christmas lights) that I needed to come up with a way to save time. I found that when I was asked to take a string of lights that were say a sequence of red and blue, and change the sequence to say white, red, yellow, blue and green, in that order, it would be too time consuming to try and do it all by hand since in most cases the lights were srung over a large house and involved thousands of individual bulbs. Using some techniques I learned while at WWF, I devised a method in which a black and white grayscale of the image could be used as a mask when its midtones were dropped out. This enabled me to have a mask consisting only of the actual lights and their respective glows. This further allowed me to then adjust versions of the mask to fit each colored bulb. The end result was a separation of bulbs that would allow for any color adjustment or specification that would ever arise. This method was an increadible time saver and we were able to meet all of the deadlines needed, again for literally hundreds of packages, hundreds of products, each with varying multi-colored sequences.
